Concept to execution: building a mobile-enabled photo sharing platform

In late 2007 there were very few people in the mobile photo sharing space. Mojobaby wanted to provide a service like twitter but that allowed the sharing of videos and photos from any phone.

Working closely with the Mojobaby team we defined strategy, crafted intuitive design and implemented cutting-edge feature-sets to deliver a polished product. The result was a service similar to twitter: A user could have and follow friends, discover people and see a stream of updates from their network.

Mobile images and videos were handled through an open-source library called MMS2R which the Citrusbyte team helped collaborate on developing. We also integrated a video transcoding solution which allowed mobile video to be sent to the Mojobaby platform and shared with a user's friends.

To market and distribute Mojobaby a widget system was developed, allowing users to place widgets on their favorite sites such as Myspace (flash widget), Forums (Animated GIF widget) and Facebook. ( Facebook application These widgets would dynamically contain a user's latest content and could be flexibly customized to integrate with the user's preferred theme.

A visual identity system was created for Mojobaby that tied the mobile aspects with the widget. The website's interface mirrored that of the widget - effectively intertwining the identity of the two components.

As Mojobaby's vision expanded, we were able to add tools that allowed users to better leverage some of the site's most robust features, including friend and invitation management, user preferences, and a fan system involving user posts.

Ongoing usability and growth came in the form of in-person usability testing. By creating and executing a series of tasks for target-demographic test groups we were able to accumulate a large collection of user interaction data. Through our analysis we were able to craft an intuitive interface and messaging system that responded to the users needs.
